Il s'agit des aspirants ninjas. Apres avoir passé un examen basé sur les enseignements qu'ils ont reçus sur les bancs de l'académie, les étudiants obtiennent leur bandeau frontal au signe de leur village, devenants ainsi des Genins. Loins d'être à la fin de leur formations, ils sont répartis en équipes de trois, comprenant dans la majorité des cas au moins une fille, sous l'enseignement d'un Jounnin. Ils effectuent des missions de rang C et D avec ce dernier. Ces missions sont assez simples, mais néanmoins nécessaires sur bien des points, notament sur le travail d'équipe. Il s'agit par exemple de ramener un animal perdu ou de nettoyer une pelouse.
